Hamilton-Paris is a collection based around the blouse. It’s a designer muse relationship between Charles Sebline and Sophie Hamilton;
a mutual fascination that is formalised in a label.
“There is something so deeply feminine about the blouse on a girl's body, it is sensuous, flirtatious. These pieces are a girl's own
indulgence to herself,” says Charles.
Styles range from a button through dress, belted at the waist in black and deep fuchsia to a white
poplin shirt formal in detail, but not spirit. Crêpe de chine is the dominant fabric and the mood is easy and chic in a deviant Parisian
kind of way. There are folds that drape around a girl‘s shoulders on a teal blouse and a dress - la robe d'après-midi - is slashed at the
sleeves. There are geometric, asymmetric statements of colour while a wrist is captured in gold chain, half-hidden beneath voile. “It’s
demure but somehow punky,” says Sophie, whose playful and nonchalant personal style is a constant inspiration to the collection.
Half French, half English Charles has had an English Parisian existence, which means his aesthetic is caught between Shakespeare‘s
Puck and la Parisienne captured by Bourdin, between images of Rhoda Birley in her garden at Charleston and his obsession with
the movement and dynamic between a woman's body and fabric.
His fashion training is similarly bilateral; he began at Central
Saint Martin‘s in London and then worked in the couture ateliers and studio of Yves Saint
Laurent in Paris.
In 2000 he joined Tom Ford‘s creative team with Yves Saint Laurent Rive
Gauche, working on both women's and men's collections.
Sophie grew up in Northern Ireland. Her childhood was spent in “a magical
realm” of contrasting influences, light and dark, the scent of peaty lakes
and rhododendrons, David Hicks‘ interiors and lush and shiny vistas.
She has an intimate
understanding of vintage, having worked both with Cameron Silver of Decades, setting up
and running Silver‘s concession at the Dover Street market, before opening her own vintage
in-store boutique in London.
Hamilton-Paris is made in France; there is integrity to the pieces in their cut, fabrics and attention
to detail.
“These are clothes to live in, to love in, nothing uptight,” says Charles.
